In the beginning, God created humankind in God’s own image, and made covenant with us. God set a rainbow in the sky as a sign of that Covenant. God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would be the ancestors of many nations, an enduring covenant that would pass on to all the generations that followed. Paul claimed for all Christians that inheritance as coming to us by faith. As we worship together today, may we reflect upon and renew this covenant, remembering the one that called us to follow him and become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Deep in the shadows of the past,
Far out from settled lands,
Some nomads travelled with their God
Across the desert sands.
The dawn of hope for humankind
Was glimpsed by them alone—
A promise calling them ahead,
A future yet unknown.


While others bowed to changeless gods,
They met a mystery:
God with an uncompleted name,
‘I am what I will be’;

From Abraham to Nazareth

Gathering Words: We gather on Holy Ground. This planet is our refuge, our home, our life, our hope. God has done many wondrous things, but it starts with creation. This time together in worship is also holy ground, a sacred moment, when God is present with us. We lift our prayers to God. We lift our praise to God. In difficult times, Martin Rinkart wrote a hymn of Thanksgiving. Now Thank We All Our God. Let us sing together, remembering all the great things God has done for us, including the gift of his son.
