Compassion and Justice

Feeding the Spirit. Building Community. Spreading God's Grace.

First United Methodist of Ontario currently maintains several partnerships that provide opportunities for service with people on the margins of society.

Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes is a community dinner hosted by different churches around the Ontario area. First UMC hosts the dinner on the fourth Friday of every month. Volunteers are always needed. We begin to set up at about 4:30 pm and finish service by about 7:30 pm. If you, or someone you know, could appreciate a free home-cooked meal, dinner is served at 6 pm. The Catholic Parish of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton serves dinner on the first Friday of the month out of our Fellowship Hall and also accepts volunteers.

UMCOR Disaster Response Team

The United Methodist Committee on Relief is an international organization run by the United Methodist Church to respond to situations of crisis around the world. Members of our church are actively involved in the Cal-Pac Disaster Response Taskforce, UMVIM Early Response, Disaster Response, and Rebuild Teams, as well as local activities for disaster preparedness. If you are interested in being trained for Disaster Preparedness or Response or joining an upcoming team for a volunteer service trip, contact Judy or Doug Lewis (email available through the church office).
