Beloved, here is the prayer I promised to send; I offer it knowing there are no perfect words, but wanted to send it particularly for those who are struggling to express their thoughts and prayers. I am sending this prayer for today, whether you pray it as you receive it, or pray at 9:11 or pray at 11am, or say your own prayer with the hope that we will be united as people of faith, in our hearts and souls as we reflect and remember, for the lives lost, and the lives changed, twenty years ago today. With love, Pastor Catie
O God of love and grace: today we lift up all the people who lost their lives 20 years ago today. We pray in sorrow for those who lost mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, friends. We pray in thanksgiving for all the heroes that day, for those who rushed to help, be they firefighters rushing into the twin towers, shop owners opening their shops for refuge, strangers helping strangers down the stairs. We pray with hope for all the sons and daughters left behind, who want to wear the mantle of their parent’s legacy, and all those for whom their loss has been a refiner’s fire making them more compassionate for others, and strong in their sense of service. May we remember and be inspired, by all the acts of courage and bravery that day, and may this day of reflection and remembrance, strengthen our resolve to live our lives of faith, with love and courage, serving others in Jesus name. Amen.
