Masks Available
Several weeks ago, members of our “The People Called Methodists” class lifted up the following section from the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church while discussing whether or not Christians should wear masks in public. The Social Principles are ethical standards our denomination holds for all members.

“Health is a condition of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. John 10:10b says, “I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest.” Stewardship of health is the responsibility of each person to whom health has been entrusted. Creating the personal, environmental, and social conditions in which health can thrive is a joint responsibility—public and private.”

As an act of love grounded in our faith, we encourage everyone to wear masks when you are in public for the preventative care of all people. We know Covid-19 can be spread by individuals without symptoms. Therefore wearing a mask is not something we do because we fear the virus, but rather a choice to care for those around you by preventing the spread of the virus from asymptomatic people. Wearing a mask is a public declaration that we value all human life.

Thanks to a generous donation from a member of the Upland First UMC community, we have masks available for those in the congregation who may need them. We want to be good stewards of this gift. We know many have been able to make masks or have acquired a store by some other means. As people begin to venture out of their homes in the days and weeks to come, we encourage all to remain vigilant not just for personal health, but for the health of the entire community.

Plus, the sooner we can eradicate this virus, the sooner we can all be together in person for worship again.
